Marie A. Murphy

Cummaquid – Marie A. Murphy, 92, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at Cape Cod Hospital after a brief illness. Marie was the beloved wife of the late Joseph S. Murphy, Sr. Born on July 12, 1929 in New York, New York, she was the daughter of George Marx and Helen (Kestler) Marx. She graduated from The College of Mount Saint Vincent in 1951 and worked in retail at B. Altman and Company and Lord & Taylor (New York), Dillard’s (Houston) and the Cape Cod Cancer Consignment Exchange in Yarmouth Port. She lived in Bronxville and Rye, New York, and Houston, Texas, prior to relocating to Cummaquid, Massachusetts, 30 years ago.

She is survived by: two sons, George (Sue) and Joseph, Jr. (Cheryl); three daughters, Ann (Dan) Parks, Marie (Gil) Kuperman, and Jean (Charlie) Hanor; four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Marie loved the beach, international travel, gardening, playing bridge, and spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren. And, at the end of the day, you would find her enjoying a Rye Manhattan while watching the nightly news.

A funeral mass will be held Friday, April 22, at 10am at Sacred Heart Chapel, Summer Street, Yarmouth Port.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in her memory to Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis, MA, and The College of Mount Saint Vincent, Riverdale, NY.
