Michael Louis Kearney, Sr. (Mickey), 81, of West Yarmouth, MA passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 11, 2022. Born in Marstons Mills, MA, he was the son of the late Oscar and Dorothy (Wilson) Kearney. At a young age, Mickey’s mother passed, his loving paternal grandmother Anna Kearney raised him.
Soon after high school graduation, Mickey entered the military. He was a US Army Vietnam War veteran and expert Rifleman. In addition to his Honorable Discharge, he received the Good Conduct Medal and Drivers Badge with Bar. After serving his country, Mickey met the love of his life, Carole Rocheteau. They married and raised their family in Hyannis where they remained and then moved to West Yarmouth 7 years ago.
For many years, Mickey was mechanic for Sears Auto Center and Tirrell Radiator in Hyannis. He also had been a bus driver and worked for the phone company.
Nothing meant more to Mickey than his family. He enjoyed family gatherings, had a deep love for children and treated everyone’s child as his own earning the proud nickname “Everybody’s Papa”.
Mickey enjoyed most anything outdoors; fishing, golfing, hunting and summer camping, he also enjoyed bowling. Mickey also had an affection for all animals.
In addition to his parents, Mickey is predeceased by his siblings Rosemary, Gary, Bruce, Dene, Barbara and Paul.
Mickey is survived by his adored wife of nearly 54 years Carole (Rocheteau) Kearney; his son Michael Louis Kearney, Jr. of Mashpee, MA; his daughter Valdene Perry and her husband Brian of South Dennis, MA; his son Kevin Rocheteau, Sr. of Arizona; his daughter-in-law Heather Tyni; his grandchildren Tyler Kearney, Marcus Colby, Shauna Inkley and Hannah Edwards; his sisters Elizabeth Mendes of Marstons Mills, MA, Joyce Maddox of Morrow, GA, Yvonne Kearney of CT and his brother Darrin Smith of CT. Mickey is also survived by his very large extended family including many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours celebrating Mickey’s life will take place Saturday, March 19, 2022 from 1-3 p.m. at Doane, Beal & Ames, 160 W. Main St., Hyannis, MA 02601. Private burial with military honors at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
