Niels Peter Jensen, born April 3, 1933, passed away suddenly on September 16, 2022 in Hyannis. Niels was a devoted husband and father. He left behind his loving wife of 68 years, Jean, and his daughters Diane Jensen, and Nancy Spigelman and her husband David. He is also survived by his beloved granddaughter Samantha Warne, her husband Rustin, and great-grandson Sawyer. He is predeceased by his son, Peter.
Niels grew up in Elizabeth, New Jersey as the only child of Mildred and Niels P. Jensen.
He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Elizabeth. He attended community college, focusing mostly on cooking and chemistry.
Niels developed several patents processes for dyeing and finishing techniques for textiles while he worked for DuPont. He also helped to create and manage various textile companies. As an independent textile consultant he traveled the world over and retired to Cape Cod.
He was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Yarmouth Port. He was a lifelong model train enthusiast and a member of the Hyannis and Orleans train clubs. Niels thoroughly enjoyed building models for his extensive train collection and layout.
He could fix almost anything, knew how to sew, hang wallpaper, and gardening. Family and friends will miss his quick wit, dry sense of humor, and ability to make people laugh. Niels loved to cook and would definitely have won a "best gravy ever" award. He also loved cookies, ice cream, and cats.
Donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Housing Assistance Corporation, 460 W. Main St., Hyannis, MA 02601.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held October 23, 2022 at 2 pm at the First Congregational Church, 329 Main St., Yarmouth Port, MA 02601. Following the service, all are invited to a collation in the church basement.
