

Hyannis -- Paul (Joseph) Carpenter, 82, husband of Eleanore M. (Bajek), of Hyannis, passed away early Saturday morning, Oct. 9, 2010, at the Pavilion nursing facility after a lengthy illness. He had just celebrated his 82nd birthday a week earlier.
Paul was born in Paterson, NJ on Sept. 28, 1928, to his late parents Charles and Florence. He had no brothers or sisters, but had many aunts, uncles and cousins in the New Jersey area.
He graduated from the New Jersey Institute of Technology as an electrical engineer, and later served as a corporal in the US Army, based at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, DC in the 1950s. Paul married “Ellie” on April 11, 1959. They lived in Fairlawn, NJ, then later in Warminster, PA, before moving to Framingham, MA in the early 1960s.
Paul and Ellie raised four children: Peter (wife Barbara), of Madison, CT; Celeste (husband Michael) Terasconi, of South Dennis, MA; Elise Tordella, of Hopkinton, MA; and Janine of Bellingham, MA. Paul was the proud grandfather of 7 grandchildren: Peter, Connor and Hunter Carpenter; Samantha and Jacqueline Tersasconi; and Juliana and Claudia Tordella.
Paul worked at several technology companies over his 30-year career as an engineer, including ITT, GE, the Sperry Rand Research Center and Raytheon. During his career, he worked on the electronics system for the lunar landing module, as well as other defense projects involving missile and satellite communications technology.
He was an active member of St. Bridget’s parish in Framingham until he and Ellie retired and moved to Hyannis in 1997. They attended the Our Lady of Victory parish in Centerville while on the Cape.
A quiet and gentle man, Paul loved being with his family and grandchildren. He was an avid reader, and enjoyed discussing history, politics, religion and science. He also enjoyed golf, chess, bridge, and crossword puzzles. He was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. He and Ellie, who recently celebrated 51 years of marriage, also enjoyed vacationing in Martha’s Vineyard.
A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, Oct. 18, 2010 at Our Lady of Victory church at 230 South Main St., Centerville, MA at 11 am. Burial will follow the Mass at the nearby St. Francis Xavier cemetery. All are invited to a luncheon following the interment
