Centerville - Priscilla Nash Sherman, 89, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2021 at her beloved home overlooking Wequaquet Lake. She was a native Cape Codder, born in Hyannis and spending most of her life here. Being of a generous nature, Priscilla opened her home and her heart to many people throughout her life, including family members and her numerous friends.
After graduating from Barnstable High School in 1949, Priscilla went on to graduate from UMass Amherst where she was active in the Sigma Kappa Sorority. She then moved on to the University of Colorado where she received a Masters Degree in Education.
After teaching first and third grades in Greenfield, MA, Westport, CT, and Littleton, CO, Priscilla returned back to Cape Cod in 1967. This time it was to marry the man of her dreams, a widower named Robert (Bob) Sherman. Along with her treasured husband, Priscilla also inherited Bob's 3 children, Randy, Rod, and Nancy. Clearly, Pree was a brave woman, but she ventured forth and embraced the children as if they were her own. Her life was full and joyous.
Pree garnered friends as she moved on to different aspects of her life, and she would keep in touch forever. Priscilla would have multiple reunions yearly with her many groups of cohorts and the Gaffney family. It was always a great time at "the Lake" with cookouts, boat rides, water sports, friends and family.
Priscilla was a life long member of the First Baptist Church in Hyannis. She was baptized there and was a very active member. She served on the Board of Deacons, The Board of Church Education, and she was a teacher and the Superintendent of Sunday School. She was a Member of the Meeteneets of Yarmouthport, and she was the Chairperson for the creation of the bicentennial quilt for the Town of Yarmouth. Pree was also President of the Couples Club. Priscilla was an excellent quilter, and many family members were fortunate to receive special handmade quilts on memorable occasions (marriages, births, etc).
Priscilla and Bob enjoyed many years of travel after Bob retired, especially through Europe and the Caribbean and Bahama Islands. On their travels they discovered what was to become their second home and second family- a charming oasis in Nassau, Bahamas- Westwind II.
Priscilla's life was built around her church, her families- both here in the US and her Bahamian family, and her copious amount of friends from every aspect of her life.
Besides her cherished husband, Bob, Priscilla is predeceased by her parents, Walter M. and Ruth Nash Gaffney.
Priscilla is survived by her 3 children, C. Randall (Randy) of West Yarmouth, Rod and his wife Margaret (Peg) of Dennis, and Nancy (aka Daupheni Daniels) of Bountiful, Utah. She is blessed by 4 grandchildren, Dean Sherman and his wife Shannon of Yarmouthport, Melissa Sherman of Niwot, CO, Jack Sherman and his wife DaviAnn of Kingston, and Katie Johnson and her husband Craig of South Yarmouth. One of the great delights of her life was Priscilla's great-grandchildren- Tucker and Teagan Sherman, Charlotte, Juliette, and Henry Sherman, and Cody, Dexter, and Eric Johnson. Priscilla is also survived by several cousins, her life-long best friend, Joyce Carpenter, and a surrogate family- the Nylander sisters, Jean Dwight and Pat O'Neil, and their families.
