Robert Parker Bearse Jr.
November 11, 1948 – April 25, 2025
Barbara Jean Bearse
February 13, 1955 – March 26, 2020
Robert “Bob” P. Bearse Jr. and his beloved wife, Barbara Jean Bearse, both lifelong residents of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, will be laid to rest together in a dual ceremony at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
Barbara passed away peacefully on March 26, 2020, and Bob followed on April 25, 2025, surrounded by the love of their family. Married for 43 years, their lives were defined by devotion to family, hard work, and a deep connection to their community.
Together, they raised three sons—Mark Leonard, Robert Bearse III, and Joseph Bearse—in Hyannis. Their home was a hub of laughter, love, and lifelong friendships. They are also lovingly remembered by their granddaughters: Sophia Leonard, Victoria Leonard, Emily Bearse, and Abigail Bearse.
Barbara was a graduate of Dennis-Yarmouth High School and was a woman of many talents. She worked in nearly every retail shop on Cape Cod, and her boisterous humor made her a favorite among customers and coworkers alike. She was also a licensed real estate agent, a Certified Nurse’s Aide, and held multiple credentials through the U.S. Coast Guard for her work with Hy-Line Fast Ferries.
Bob graduated from Barnstable High School and went on to earn a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology. From 1968 to 1973, he served his country in the United States Navy as a Nuclear Machinist Mate First Class aboard the USS Bainbridge and the USS Northampton during the Vietnam conflict.
After his military service, Bob returned to Hyannis and took over the family business, Bearse Automarine, Inc. Over his 47-year career, he built a reputation for honesty, skill, and unwavering dedication, earning the trust of generations in both the automotive and marine communities.
Bob and Barbara were people who never met a stranger. Whether it was Bob boating in Lewis Bay or Barbara cracking jokes behind a cash register, their warmth and spirit left lasting impressions wherever they went.
Bob was preceded in death by Barbara; his parents, Robert Sr. and Janette Bearse. Barbara’s sister Patty passed away one year after her own passing. Bob is survived by his sisters, Penny Barnes and Julie Hayden. Barbara is survived by her siblings: Jimmy, Richard, Robert, Billy, and Rosie.
They will be deeply missed by all who knew them—and even more so by those lucky enough to be loved by them.
Mom and Dad, we’re really going to miss you. But you’re exactly where you need to be—back together again.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in their memory to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
