Centerville- Robert C Silk, 68 entered into eternal rest on Sunday April 26th 2015 at The Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston after complications from Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia (CMML).
Bob was born in Springfield MA on May 13th 1946 the son of Robert R. Silk and Frances Silk (Smart). Bob was predeceased by his father Robert R., his daughter Kaitlin M Silk, and his father-in-law Leo P. DeBon.
Bob grew up in West Springfield MA He graduated from West Springfield High School in 1964, and Central Connecticut State University in 1969. After college Bob met the love of his life Linda DeBon in 1972, and they recently celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary. Bob and Linda were blessed with three beautiful children: Corey, Courtney, and their oldest daughter Kaitlin whom he now joins in heaven.
Bob worked as a real-estate agent, in real-estate advertising, and most recently for Sweeney Associates as a marketing and sales director for 55 plus condominium projects in Western Mass.
Bob was an avid sports enthusiast always cheering on his Boston Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots. He has been a Red Sox season ticket holder for many years. Bob was also known among family and friends as a great animated story teller, baseball mentor, and Civil War Historian.
Bob was a 3 sport athlete at West Springfield high school excelling in football, basketball, and baseball. He played on numerous championship teams. Bob’s love of sports brought him to coach several of his son’s award winning little league, Babe Ruth, and legion baseball teams on Cape Cod. A door in the basement is proof of the many hours spent fine-tuning the batting skills of many potential Barnstable and West Springfield baseball players.
He is survived by his wife Linda Silk (DeBon), son Corey, and daughter Courtney. He also leaves his mother Frances, brother William and his wife Jeanne Silk of West Springfield, and two sisters Barbara Largay,and Kathleen Sweeney and her husband Michael all of West Springfield, his mother-in-law Mary DeBon and sister-in-law Patricia DeBon both of Hershey, PA, and brother-in-law Bruce DeBon and his wife Teri of Westwood, NJ. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews including Dina, Brendon, Ryan, Melissa, Sean, Kellie, Eric, Bryan, Matt, and Chris. He also leaves behind many dear friends who where very special to him. The family would also like to thank Kevin Smyth-Hammond from the Cape Cod Oncology Floor for all his ongoing support.
A visitation will be held at Our Lady Victory Church in Centerville MA on Friday May 1st from 4-7 pm. A Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 am on Saturday May 2nd 2015 at Our Lady Victory church in Centerville MA.
