Born in Cleveland on Sept. 3, 1923, Roy later moved to the Hudson River area in Beacon, NY, attended school during the depression, and loved crabbing down on the river with his 5 siblings.
During WWII, he was a sergeant in the Army Air Force and was trained as a gunner on B 17’s (the flying fortress) and B 29’s (the super fortress). The war in Europe ended, shortly before his crew was to be sent to England. After additional training in New Mexico, he was again fortunate, for the War in the Pacific ended, while his ten man crew was in transit to the Pacific theater. Roy’s three brothers: Arthur, Donald and Ernest, all served in WWII, while his sisters Adeline and Ann helped on the home front.
In 1999 Roy was predeceased by Keinath Davey Dupuy (from Lovell, ME), his wife for 49 years. She was introduced to him by Ernest, when she was at Barnard College while Ernest was at Columbia. Keinath and Roy moved to Cape Cod, where he worked in management for New England Telephone for 30 years.
Roy was an avid woodcarver and served as president of the New England Woodcarvers and Cape Cod Woodcarvers, exhibiting in many juried shows. Later, his love of military history and uniforms, led him to create Mess Dress, a militaria company. Roy loved Keinath, his large family, wood carving and militaria. When quizzed he was invariably; “Excellent!”
Roy is survived by his 5 children: Mark C. Dupuy of Egg Harbor, WI, and Matthew J. Dupuy, Stephanie A. Layton, Candace D. Dupuy and Dr. Damian E. Dupuy, all of Centerville. He is survived by 9 grandchildren: Cory, Tucker, Erin, Lindsay, Adam, Aliana, Shane, Alexandra and Caroline, and his great-grandson, Klay.
Services are private, and a life celebration will occur this summer. In lieu of flowers donations to the Alzheimer’s Associations, 480 Pleasant St. Watertown, MA 02472, would be appreciated.
