Born in 1922 as Sadie Panesis, Denise, the second of four daughters to Anastasia and Spiro Panesis was a member of the first Greek family that immigrated to Hyannis. She graduated from Barnstable High School in 1940 and worked as a telephone operator during the Great War. She married her sweetheart Ted Apostol in 1945, to whom she was married for 70 years, and they went into the restaurant business, co-managing the Sword & Shield in Harwichport for 37 years with their two children, Arthur and Stacy. Denise was active in the Greek Church, loved to paint with oils and acrylics as well as play rummyque and cards with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter Stacy Apostol, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held January 7th, 11:30 am at Mosswood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the church.
