Born on May 9, 1931 in Laconia, NH, she was a daughter of the late Prof. and Mrs. Kenneth Bernard. Sylvia graduated Cum Laude from Bates College in Lewiston, and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She continued her studies at Boston University and University of Miami. Sylvia received a Masters Degree in Library Science from Southern Connecticut State University, as well as a Masters Degree in History from Bridgewater State University.
Sylvia worked for AAA, but spent the majority of her career as a University Librarian. She most recently worked for Bridgewater State University as Reference Librarian and Special Assistant for the Abraham Lincoln Collection.
She was a long time summer resident of Cape Cod where she permanently moved in 1995 after residing in South Easton. Sylvia was proud member of both the Harwich and Vermont Historical Societies, Vermont Land Trust, Lincoln Group of Boston, Friends of Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum and the Lincoln Memorial University.
Family and friends could always count on Sylvia for an intelligent conversation about politics. She was an avid Red Sox fan, reader, and enjoyed spending time working in the garden. Sylvia will be deeply missed by many close, longtime friends and cousins.
