It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Vassiliki Kounadis (Poliderakis), known affectionately as "Vaso" to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Our beloved mother passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, with her loving family by her side. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Gerassimos, as well as her parents Christos Poliderakis and Antonia (Nikolaros) and siblings Dimitrios, Konstantinos, and John. Vassiliki is survived by her children Dennis (Mary), Evangelia (Theodore), and Christos (Nikoletta), grandchildren Gerald, Michael, Harilaos, Gerassimos, Gerassimos, and Valentina, and her great-grandson Vasileos.
Born in the village of Magoula, near Sparta, Greece, Vassiliki embodied the true spirit of a Spartan. She was a unifying force, bringing people together with her unwavering compassion, generosity, and boundless energy. Whether to comfort a loved one feeling under the weather or celebrate a happy occasion, she was always the first to share limitless quantities of her many iconic dishes...and there was no family gathering without her famous galaktoboureko. Approachable and empathetic, Vassiliki was always there to share her wisdom, celebrate your successes, or console you when you needed it most.
Vassiliki's journey led her to Montreal, where she met and then married her husband Gerry. The early years were tough, but Vassiliki and Gerry were tougher. They succeeded in building a great life for themselves and their children, as well as helping their relatives join them in Canada. As the nurturer and backbone of her family, Vaso's energy was nuclear, her resilience inspiring.
