George E Griffith, age 83, of Independence, passed away Sept. 13, 2016. Private services at a later date. He was born Oct. 1, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA, to Carrie (Fisher) Griffith. He was raised and educated in Philadelphia. He served in the Navy during the Korea War and was honorably discharged. George married Lillian Volz, July 7, 1955 in Philadelphia, PA, she survives. He began working as a real estate broker in Philadelphia, then the family moved to New Jersey where he worked as a corrections officer. He and Lillian then moved to Independence after retiring. He is survived by daughter Miriam Maxwell and her husband Steve, wife Lillian of the home. Grandchildren; Georgia and Sarah.
