John H. Cooney, 91, of Independence, was surrounded by his family when he peacefully joined the Lord Jesus Christ on February 22, 2026. He was born in Hartshorne, OK on July 20, 1934. John proudly served in the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman from 1957 - 1959. He worked at Corn Products, Co. for 39 years, beginning his career at the North Kansa City plant. It was there where he met his wife of 60 years, Carole, who preceded him in death.
John is survived by his son Patrick (Yeong) Cooney, daughter, Mary Cooney, granddaughters, Emily and Leslie Cooney, was well as many nieces and nephews.
Service will be private.
