Olivet Catholic Cemetery, 7601 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, MO 64138, in Raytown. She was born on April 27, 1923 in Ethan, SD, to Angela and Lawrence Hohn. She grew up in the Ethan South Dakota area with two brothers and two sisters and attended Ethan High School. She married Erwin Salter in 1943, who died in WWII. She married Raymond Schelp in 1946 and they were blessed with five loving children. She was a member of Nativity of Mary Catholic Church of Independence. During her life she had worked at many careers: farmer, governess, bookkeeper, secretary, waitress, musical entertainer on live radio and TV, special needs teacher, and her favorites, homemaker and matriarch. Her list of interests included: family, children, music, song writing, sewing, carpentry, genealogy, and gardening. She spent many hours working on projects, most of them items she gifted to extended family and friends. She built two of the family homes in Independence, a vacation cabin at Truman Lake, spent years researching family genealogy and years volunteering at Palmer Senior Center. Most of all she collected personal connections to everyone around her. If relationships were raindrops, hers would fill an ocean. She is survived by her children, Sue Schelp of Warrensburg, Raymond Schelp of Lee’s Summit, Mike Schelp of Kansas City, Karen Tope of Kansas City, and Renee Schelp of Colorado Springs, Co; sister-in-law Edna Mahnken; eight grandchildren, Greg, Paul, Angela, Kelly, Colby, Kim, Sam, Jim; fifteen great grandchildren, Kai, Ava, Gwendelyn, Kaylee, Noah, Shelby, Brooke, Caleb, Rosie, Emily, JT, Jen, Tyler, Nick, and Jake; two great-great grandchildren, Corbin, and Nate; and many nieces and nephews. Lexie was helped through her illness by the wonderful care of St. Luke’s Hospice House. Donations can be made to either St. Jude’s Children Hospital or St. Luke’s Hospice House of Kansas City in lieu of flowers.
