

1928 - 2017
Oscar R. Wittig of Oak Grove, MO, 88, went home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 24, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Independence on September 6, 1928, and lived in the Oak Grove area most of his life. He was the second son of Oscar W. and Leone (Tawney) Wittig.
He moved to Oak Grove in the 1930s and lived there until his death. He was a 1946 graduate of Oak Grove High School. In 1948, he married Doris Jackson, and together they raised five children. He was a farmer for most of his life, and also worked 23 years at the GM Fairfax assembly plant, retiring in 1987. He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 31, and of the Oak Grove Bible Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar W. Wittig and Leone E. Reinking, his step-mother Julia Wittig, step-father Clarence Reinking, his brother, Homer Wittig, and his youngest daughter, Melanie (Wittig) Nussbaum. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Doris (Jackson) Wittig; a step-sister, Dorothy Smith, a step-brother, Bill Hedger, and a half-brother, Carl Wittig; two daughters Susan Mordente (husband Anthony) of Bel Air, MD, and Edith Lakin of Topeka, KS; two sons, Charles Wittig and Russell Wittig, both of Oak Grove, MO; grandchildren Lena (Jeff) Lakin-Runnebaum, Bryant Lakin, Bryan Scott Wittig, Rachel Mordente, Sara (Robbie) Joerger, and Matthew Mordente; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Oak Grove Bible Church on Tuesday, May 30th at 11:00a.m., with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Blue Springs Cemetery. The family requests no flowers; contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Casa de Mio Padre, care of the Oak Grove Bible Church.
