It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ab Flaig, our much loved father, grandfather,and great grandfather. Dad died peacefully at home after a short battle with cancer. He was 89 years of age. Dad was born January 23, 1921 at Maple Creek, SK. to parents, Andreas & Friederike Flaig and was the sixth of eight children. He went to work at a very early age to help support his family. At the age of eighteen, he joined the Canadian Armed Forces, becoming a member of the South Saskatchewan Regiment. Dad served in England and France, where he was captured and became a POW. Upon his return from the war he married Fern Margaret Cutt, the love of his life, on November 3, 1945. They had two children, Linda and Bill. Dad was extremely proud of his family and was most happy when spending countless hours in their presence. Dad was an avid golfer, hunter, fisherman and gardener. He spent many enjoyable holidays with the family he loved doing the things he loved. Dad also loved his sports. From a very early age his love for hockey and football began a life long hobby of collecting memorabilia of all his favourite teams. Dad was predeceased by our Mom, Fern, his loving wife of almost sixty years; his parents Andreas and Friederike Flaig; mother-in law and father-in-law, Violet & Fred Cutt; two brothers, four sisters and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Dad is survived and lovingly remembered by his daughter and son-in-law Linda & Mel Schettler; by his son and daughter-in-law Bill & Heather Flaig; six grandchildren: Michael (Charlene), Corey, Kimberley (Kelly), Jodi, Lindsay (Adam), Chelsea; nine great grandchildren: Caitlin, Chantal, Cody, Emily, Justin, Jillian, Cami, Dylan, Matthew; many nieces, nephews and countless other family and friends. A Celebration of Dad's life will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2010 in St. Andrew's United Church, Indian Head, SK. at 2:00 pm with Reverend Susan Edgar officiating. Cremation with internment in Indian Head Cemetery. The family respectfully declines flowers. If friends so desire, contributions to a charity of choice may be tokens of remembrance.
