Elsie, second youngest of 8 children, was born in Odessa on September 15, 1919, then raised in Sintaluta before moving to Indian Head. She married Wes Ford in 1940 and together they farmed for nearly twenty-five years. After retiring to Indian Head, in 1962, they spent a number of years being ‘snow birds,’ travelling to Texas and Arizona in their motorhome. Wes and Elsie also took many enjoyable trips which included Hawaii and Asia. On one of those trips, Elsie road an elephant! Elsie loved to spend time in her garden and enjoyed her flowers. She was an avid golfer, curler, and bridge player. She also loved to show her creative side, through arts and crafts. Elsie was a real community person, taking part in many activities around town.
Family was also very important to Elsie, especially her one and only great grandson, Spencer Hrycan.
Elsie is survived by two daughters, Phyllis (Alan) Colquhoun - Saskatoon and Donna (Garry) Janke - Balgonie, as well as 6 grandchildren - Jeff, Michael, Leanne, Darren, Brent and Tara.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wes, in 1986, all of her 7 siblings and an infant grandson, Richard.
A private family graveside service will take place on July 21. A ‘Celebration of Life’ for friends and family will follow from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the C.E. Centre of the St. Andrew’s United Church.
