Fred is survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Delphine; sons Kelly (Eva) and Darryl (Pattie); daughter Laurie (Don) Warford; grandchildren Lindsay (Chase) Karchewski, Edwin Warford and Jackson Warford; sisters-in-law Kay McKaeff and Dorothy Cholewa; brother-in-law Albert Cholewa, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Music was a big part of Fred’s life; he had an immense joy in playing music - the accordion was his specialty. It even changed his life; one time in the 1950’s while playing one of his “gigs” with The CJGX Rangers (a radio house band from Yorkton), is where he met the love of his life, Delphine. As life evolved, he found a new a band called the “Shan D Liers” whom he played with for many years.
Fred’s first job in Regina was at The Army & Navy Store. He then had the opportunity to start his career as a painter with PFRA (Community Pasture Division) and later, worked until retirement with the Regina Exhibition Association. To keep busy in retirement, he started a painting and repair business, Lone Star Painting.
Fred and Delphine liked to travel, with their biggest trip being a month-long adventure of Europe in the 80’s. They enjoyed many of Canada’s provinces and became “snowbirds” spending time in Yuma, AZ.
He enjoyed woodworking, gardening (his famous tomato plants), fishing trips and sharing stories of his Russian Doukhobor Heritage, which he was so proud to be. Fred was a kind, hard-working, loving, great joke teller and an all-around great person. Anyone who met Fred will always remember his smile, his conversations, his music and his quick wit.
Fred will be missed very dearly by his family and his friends. Прощай – Proshchay (Forgive & Farewell).
Special thanks to Fred’s “Golden Prairie Home Family”, for their care and love these past two years.
