Fred leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Yvonne Brown (Skinner); son Richard (Sheryl Wass) and daughter Jill Marlin (Bradley); grandchildren: Christopher (Siobhan), Aaron (Amanda), Jennifer Marlin (Rod Harrison) and Jordan Marlin; great-grandchildren: Oliver and Sarah Brown and Freddie Deborah and Arthur Marlin-Harrison.
Fred was predeceased by his parents Thomas Brown (1898-1936) and Grace McIntosh (1901-1995) and step-father Fredrick Ovens (1898-1982). Also, seven brothers: Clifford, Earl, Charley, Gordon, Ron, Clarence (Shorty) and Lorne, and two sisters: Ruth and Loretta.
Fred was the youngest of ten children and born in Yorkton, SK. In 1952 his mother remarried and they moved to the Valley farm at Katepwa. Fred became a farmer, he had a love of the machinery and the land. Fred also played hockey for Indian Head for more than 50 years, playing juvenile, senior and old timers. Hockey was likely his first love, an avid Montreal Canadians fan. The sport and social aspect, beer, music and fun. The team was a “family" back then.
Though short in stature, his charisma and presence could fill any room. When visiting the farm, the coffee was always hot and there was a seat at the table to welcome whomever drove into the yard that day. He will be remembered for his quick wit, kindness, warmth and his positive outlook. A man of many talents, he could be found in his wood working shop creating a wonderful piece of furniture. He enjoyed traveling and exploring many countries. He even rode a camel! He will be missed and forever remembered by all his family, friends and many hockey enthusiasts. His legacy will live on with anyone who had the pleasure of sharing a laugh with him.
A celebration of life will take place in the Indian Head Memorial Hall, Indian Head, SK, on Sunday, August 30, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. with Don Jewitt officiating. The interment will take place at a later date in the All Saints Anglican Parish Cemetery, Katepwa, Saskatchewan.
