Ida Pearl Totten Thompson

Ida leaves her family in sorrow and to celebrate her life: sons Ronald (Donna) Thompson -(Andrea & Dwight Webster, Alexa, Rylan, Orland & Brenda Thompson, Kaiden, Joshua - Indian Head; Dennis Thompson & Sherricee Bobowski - Saskatoon; Garry (Dianne) Thompson - (Shelley & Ray Merk, Kathryn, Emily, Aden, Ethan, Wendi & Barry Goebel, Leighton, Corissa - Regina; daughters Joan Taylor (Gary Schmidt) - (Craig & Charity Taylor, Grace, Lily - Indian Head, Angela & Trevor Williamson - Okotoks, Alberta; Trevor Taylor – Saskatoon); Jyl (Alden) Paul – Smeaton, (Colin - Smeaton, Sk., Michelle - North Vancouver, Shari, Shauna - Prince Albert); son-in-law Ron Wesley - Indian Head (Larry, LeeAnn - Regina, Laurie & Brett Mario, Ashley, Andrew, Alex – Saskatoon); sister Nelda Harrop - Indian Head and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Ida was born at home 24.18.12. W2 near Sintaluta and attended Spring Coulee School. She met George at a school picnic held at the Billet farm. They married in 1935. Together they raised their family on a farm in the Fair Play district.

Ida moved to Indian Head in 1981, but continued her interest in the farm inquiring often about the progress of the crops. She was often seen going to coffee in her car with the license “Pearl 5”. One of the first five Aids trained for the newly formed Squirrel Hill Home Care, she enjoyed the contact with the clients for several years. Winter found her at the local hockey rink to watch family activities. She frequently boasted that she had three grandsons playing for the Chiefs at once and seldom missed a game. Evenings were spent knitting mitts and watching TV sports.

Unable to manage alone, Ida moved to Hayes Haven in January 2001. On a visit you had to share the sofa with her doll collection. With more care required she moved to Lakeside Nursing Home in December 2004.

She now joins family who predeceased her - husband George ('71), infant son Glenn ('37), daughter Joyce Wesley ('02), her parents Sarah Totten Burrill ('69) and Samuel Totten ('42), three sisters Edna Pitchko (46), Florence Wilcocks (’93), Eva Guild (’96), and brother Elmer Totten (’83).

Funeral Service by Pastor Dennis R. Irving was held Saturday, January 15 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Andrew’s United Church with interment in Indian Head Cemetery. Pallbearers were her grandchildren: Orland and Dennis Thompson, Craig and Trevor Taylor, Larry Wesley, Shelley Merk, Michelle Paul and great grandson Andrew Mario.
