It is with heavy hearts, yet much gratitude for her life, that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandma Lillian Diane Hoffman (nee Szilagyi). At the age of 85 years, Lil passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025 in Regina, SK with her family by her side.
Born in Handsworth, SK on March 12, 1939, Lillian was the daughter of Alex and Julia Szilagyi. On February 9, 1956 she married the love of her life, Clarence Hoffman, with whom she shared many wonderful years. Together they raised a family of 5, living in Windthorst and Indian Head before moving to Grenfell. Along the way, Lil gained many personal friends from within her places of employment, through her passion for golf and also mutually with Clarence as they remained involved and active within each community they resided in. Lil was widowed at the young age of 62, but continued to live her life with the courage and resilience she was always known to have. One filled with love and devotion to her family, friends and to her community. Soon after Clarence’s passing, she returned to Indian Head to spend her remaining years closer to her family as the generations expanded. These were years that she absolutely cherished.
Lillian was predeceased by her husband Clarence; siblings: Irene Campbell (Charlie), Alex Szilagyi (Elsie), Jimmy Silagy and sons-in-law Russ Horsman and Tim Welch.
Through marriage, Lil was equally blessed to inherit many additional family members that have always been a significant part of her life. These include brother-in-law Harold Hoffman (deceased) and wife Nancy, Jerome Hoffman (deceased) and wife Sharon and sister in law Evelyn Willison and husband Dave.
Lil is survived by her children: Penny (Kim) Huntley, Pam Horsman, Yvonne (Steve) Baron, Dan (Angie) Hoffman and Patty Welch (Darris Wouters); grandchildren: Kelly (Lanny) Obleman, Corie (Bruce) Webster, Nolan Huntley (Melissa Korchinski), Trent Horsman (Philomena Reid), Stacey Horsman, Chad (Danielle) Hack, Shaun (Kayla) Hack, Chris (Monica) Baron, Nick Baron, Jessika (Garrett) Kopp, Bonni Hoffman, Brianna (Ian) Schultz, Jordan Welch (Jade Abrahams) and Ash Wouters; as well as her 25 great-grandchildren, all of whom were her greatest source of joy. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Elaine Silagy.
Lillian’s life was repeatedly marked by the deep love she had for family and her commitment to creating a warm and welcoming home. She was known for her gardening, yard work and the joy she found in entertaining family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her competitive spirit would often show up in her love of card playing. Oh how she enjoyed a good game, but enjoyed the winning even more. Lil was an incredible mother, who always took great pride in raising her children and treasured every moment with her ever growing family.
To some she was known as Lillian, others Lily and even Lil. But those that loved her most knew her as Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma. She will always be remembered for her unwavering strength, her kind heart and her devotion to family. This small and spunky gem of a lady continually proved that she could work circles around anyone and left many astonished at her stamina which remained nearly until her last days. Her legacy of love will be treasured forever and live on in the hearts of all that knew and loved her.
A family gathering will be held at a later date to celebrate her life and the many memories she so lovingly left behind.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memoriam may be made to the Indian Head and District Hospital Foundation Inc. sent via e-transfer to [email protected] in memory of Lil Hoffman.
