Spencer Calder

The funeral service for the late Spencer Gerald Calder of Indian Head, Saskatchewan, Canada, who passed away in the Indian Head Hospital on September 24, 2003 at the age of 87 years was held in the Tubman Funeral Home, Wolseley,Saskatchewan, Canada, on September 28, 2003 with Pastor Sheila McLeod officiating. Interment followed in the Moffat Cemetery, Moffat District, Saskatchewan. The casket bearers were: Terry Graff, Gordon Graff, Robert Stanger, Bonnie Rilkoff, Barry McCall and Wayne McCall.

Spencer was born August 7, 1916 at Montmartre, Saskatchewan, Canada, the son of Wallace and Grace (Hallowell) Calder. He attended school at Montmartre and attained his high school at Wolseley and Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. He married Anne Bieber on June 29, 1944 and they were blessed with five sons. Spencer helped his parents farm in the Montmartre area for a number of years and then took over the family farm. He also farmed in the Glenavon, Saskatchewan, Canada district. After retiring he enjoyed going back to the farm with his two sons who farmed. In 1978, along with the neighbours he built their retirement home in Indian Head. Spencer had the misfortune of being struck by a drunk driver in April 1993 which put him in a wheel chair for the rest of his life.

Spencer was predeceased by his son Dearle Calder in 1999, his father Wallace in 1974, mother Grace in 1981 and sister Edna DeDecker in 2000. He is survived by his loving wife and best friends of 59 years, Anne, their four sons: Darcy (Marie) Calder, Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada and their children Nicole (Brent) Fogaard and their daughter Piper Fogaard, Chantelle and Kari-Lynn; Kelsey (Marian) Calder, Indian Head, Saskatchewan, Canada and their family Chantara, Ashton and Trista; Arlen (Corinne) Calder, Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Canada and their family Jennifer, Brandee and Landon; Brian (Celeste) Calder, Rose Valley, Saskatchewan, Canada and their family Travis, Jessica and Jarrett, one daughter in law Eleanor Calder, Burnaby, B.C. Canada and her family Norley (Jaimie) and Brett. Two brothers Wallace (Greta) Calder, Abbotsfor, B.C. Canada, and Robert Calder, Kentville, Nova Scotia, Canada. Two sisters Grace Hawkesford, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada and Winnifred (Adam) Manz, Thamesville, Ontario, Canada. Spencer is also survived by his nieces and nephews.
