Susan Louise Penfold

Susan was born on February 16, 1951, in Vancouver, British Columbia, to Martin and Bertha (Frank) Klatt. She was raised in Burnaby, B.C., where she lived until adulthood.

In Vancouver, Susan worked in adoption placements. In 1973, she decided to move to Saskatchewan, where she had many relatives. It was during this time that she met Jim Penfold and the two began a life together. They were married in 1975 and shared 51 years of marriage.

Susan and Jim lived in Regina before eventually making their home in Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan, where they raised their family. Susan was a devoted mother and spent most of the years her children were growing up as a stay-at-home mom. She also worked part-time at the local library.

As her children became teenagers and adults, Susan returned to the workforce. She worked at Wilson’s Grocery Store and Scott’s Printing, both in Qu’Appelle. She later worked for Lorne Scott, MLA, as his constituency assistant for a brief time. Susan eventually retired and she and Jim enjoyed their retirement years together.

Susan loved to laugh and had a wonderful sense of fun. She enjoyed playing board games, camping and traveling to British Columbia to visit family. Family was important to her and those trips gave her the opportunity to spend time with the people she loved.

She and Jim also shared plenty of laughter over the years. Jim loved pulling pranks on Susan and she often fell for them resulting in a good laugh by everyone. Those little moments of teasing and laughter became part of the story of their 51 years together - memories that Jim and the family will treasure.

Susan also loved to cook and bake and often made treats so delicious that her family would fight over the last piece.

Susan adored her two grandsons Nic and Quinn. Nothing gave her more joy than spending time with them and making them smile.

Above all, Susan was a faithful and proud follower of Jesus Christ. Her Christian faith was an important part of her life. She and Jim were regular churchgoers and her faith was a source of comfort, strength and hope.

Susan will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 51 years, Jim; her daughter Charlene (Greg) Ciortan; her son Jeffrey Penfold (Camilla Kistner) and her grandchildren Nicholas Ciortan and Quinlan Ciortan. She is also survived by her sister Janet (Peter) Senior; her brother David (Nicole) Klatt and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents Martin and Bertha (nee Frank) Klatt and brother-in-law Allan Bjarnson.

Susan leaves behind a lifetime of love, laughter, memories and family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

After 51 years of marriage, Jim and Susan built a life together filled with family, faith, laughter, adventures and countless memories. The love they shared will remain in the hearts of their family and friends forever.
