Wendal was born November 10, 1924 to Joseph and Barbara Stoppler. He was raised on the family farm and farmed himself from teenage years until 1967. While he lived at home in the Montmartre area, he loved baseball and played 3rd base for the local team during the 50's and 60's. Wendal met and married his wife Shirley in 1959. Together they raised two children, Bonnie and Joe. From 1967-1970 Wendal worked in a hotel in Regina while his wife ran a boarding house. It was in 1970 that they bought their first hotel, which was in Aneroid, SK. Over the span of the next 12 years they bought and sold three hotels. Wendal and his family moved to Indian Head in 1976. Wendal would be away during the week working in his hotel and his wife Shirley would join him on weekends. This went on until they sold their last hotel in 1982. Wendal loved hotel business so much, after selling the last one, he worked in Indian Head Hotel from 1982-1984. He then worked as the delivery truck driver for the Indian Head Bakery. He did this until he retired.
In retirement Wendal loved gardening, playing catch with his grand children, watching baseball on TV and yelling at those Toronto Blue Jays, and visiting with friends. Wendal also enjoyed having drinks with friends and family. When someone would come to visit, the bottle of Wiser's was the first thing placed on the table. He also always had beer on hand. Wendal was sometimes a hard, stern man, but there was never any doubt that he loved his children, grand children, and great grand children.
Wendal was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Barbara, his wife Shirley, and his brothers and sisters August, Annie, Joe, Ted, Larry, Margaret, and Rose.
He is survived by his daughter Bonnie Munro (Kevin Rose), son Joe (Carrie) Stoppler, grandchildren Tanya (Cory) Nemeth, Mandi Desfosses, Lee Stoppler, Darren (Melissa) Haugen, Crystal (Gord) Buchanan, Sarah McKinnon and Dawn McKinnon (Will Blizzard). Great grand children Danica, Lochlin, Kinnley Nemeth, Heidi Stoppler, Ransym and Storm Buchanan and Jade McKinnon.
There will be no funeral service as that's what Wendal wanted.
