He and his family were forced to flee to Germany following the Soviet occupation of Latvia during World War II. They spent several years of hardship in refugee camps until they were able to immigrate to the United States in 1950.
Following the death of his father in 1951, he moved to Indianapolis where he attended Shortridge High School.
He worked in the grocery industry for 50 years; 10 years with Standard Grocery and 40 years with Marsh Supermarkets, retiring in 2006.
Andy loved to travel and was able to return to his beloved Latvia several times, following the fall of the Soviet Union.
It gave him great joy to share his beautiful country and heritage with his children and grandchildren.
He enjoyed vacations in Florida and weekends at his place on the Ohio River.
He enjoyed reading and working in the yard. A garden rake was his power tool of choice.
He loved his family and was a good friend to everyone he met on his journey through life.
All of his life, he remained curious and kind and honorable above everything else.
His family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the physicians and staff at Indiana Heart, and for the heroic and compassionate care he received in the heart hospital at St. Francis.
A celebration of Andy’s life will be on March 9th, 2025 from 2:00pm-4:00pm at the Grand Kellersaal Ballroom in the Rathskeller restaurant, located at 401 E Michigan St, Indianapolis, IN 46204.
