

Anthony Walter “Tony” Crenshaw, Sr., age 82, passed away peacefully at home on July 28, 2025. Born on September 8, 1942, to Royce and Leona Crenshaw, Tony was a loving husband, father, Papa, brother, and friend.
On May 31, 1961, Tony proudly enlisted in the United States Army, where he served for three years. He later continued his service in the Army National Guard. In his civilian life, Tony worked for many years as a custodian with Indianapolis Public Schools. He was deeply proud of his work and the positive impact he made on the school community. After retiring from Indianapolis Public Schools, Tony found a new career doing maintenance at Senior Living Communities with National Church Residences, where he earned a Leadership Award in 2012.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Carol (Goins) Crenshaw; his son, Thomas Chrisler (Tami); his brothers, Richard Crenshaw, Sr. and Gerald Crenshaw; and his sister, Patricia (Crenshaw) Collins.
On April 7, 2018, Tony married Lisa (Humphries) Crenshaw, who survives him. He is also survived by his children: Tonya Akinmoju, Julie Major (Brian), Karla Johnson, Anthony Crenshaw (Aisha), Alex Vasquez, K Vasquez, and Alyssa Vasquez. He was a proud grandfather to 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Tony is also survived by his sisters, Nonna Webster and Mary Wilkes and a host of nieces and nephews.
Tony had a deep love for the Indianapolis Colts and rarely missed a game. As a young boy, he spent many joyful days fishing with his cousins—memories he often cherished. Later in life, Tony discovered a passion for painting. His beautiful landscape paintings now adorn the walls of his home and have been lovingly shared with family and friends, leaving a lasting artistic legacy.
Tony will be remembered for his quiet strength, kind spirit, and unwavering devotion to his family. His life was a testament to service, love, and the simple joys that bring people together.
A visitation for Tony will be held Monday, August 4, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a service at 12:00 PM.
Tony will be laid to rest in Crown Hill Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, IN 46208.
