

Betty Joe Ann Cowherd attended Indianapolis Public Schools #4, #23, #17 and Crispus Attucks High School where she graduated in 1955.
She accepted Christ in her early years of life and became a member of 17th Street Baptist Church and Christ Missionary Baptist Church. Betty was a dedicated member of 17th Street Baptist Church and Christ Missionary Baptist Church. She showed her love and care for others by driving friends and neighbors to church. She was a faithful and committed member of The Emma O. Johnson Missionary
Society and enjoyed being an active member. She possessed a happy spirit and loved worshiping with her church family and friends.
Betty Joe Ann Cowherd worked until the age of 80. Her career included RCA, Western Electric, Thompson Consumer Electronics, Government Center Vending Machine Filler and Molex Seat Belts. Betty was very involved in politics serving as a precinct committee person for several years. Betty was always proud and considered it a grand privilege to place her vote during each election, including the 2024 presidential election. Betty received the Indiana Senate Certificate of Recognition in honor of her 90th Birthday.
She had a zeal for continued learning: Vocational School of Upholstery, Flower Design School of Indianapolis, Inc. (East 82nd Street), Homeowner Training Program, Purdue University-West Lafayette Indiana, Master Gardener, IUPUI Home Horticulture, John Robert Powers Interior Design, Second Homeowner Training Class and Kheprw-The Growing Good in the Hood/Kheprw Gardens.
A special recognition that Betty cherished was the Indianapolis Public Park, “Doris Cowherd Park”, at 40th & Irvington Ave., named after her mother who was very involved in the Lawrence Township Community.
Betty Joe Ann Cowherd departed this life to be with the Lord on February 21, 2025 at the age of 91years. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert Augustus Cowherd and her nephew, Robert Alan Cowherd.
Betty will be missed by many, Gwendolyn & Tony Mason's family, cousin Everly Senour-Phelps (Michael), dear friends Nancy Ford-Winters, Harriett Vaughn, Miriam (Mimi) Zken with Kheprw program, Annie Price family including all neighbors on Culver St., a host of cousins living all around the country and last but definitely not least all of her Christ Missionary Family and Caregivers.
A visitation for Betty will be held Friday, February 28, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Christ Missionary Baptist Church (CMBC), 1001 Eugene Street, Indianapolis, IN 46208, followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 PM.
