Cecile E. Harris

94, Speedway - died August 21, 2019, 7 years to the day of her beloved husband's, George, passing in 2012. Cecile was born in Geneva, Switzerland, raised in Cognac, France. She was schooled in Vienna, Austria and lived her entire adult life in Indianapolis & Speedway, Indiana.

In February 1946, while working for the Swiss Red Cross in the Alps near Adelboden, Switzerland, she met a charming American GI from Indianapolis, Indiana. Although she thought he was "full of prunes" she agreed to meet him for a hot chocolate that evening in a local chalet, and the rest is history. George and Cecile were married October 1, 1946.

Cecile was a stay at home wife in the early years. In the 1970's she volunteered as a "Pink Lady" at Methodist Hospital and later worked part-time at the cafeterias of Speedway Jr and Sr High Schools. In the 1950's she was a member of the Alliance Francaise of Indianapolis and in the 1970's became an active member for nearly 40 years of the Swiss Club of Central Indiana. One of Cecile's joys was gourmet cooking especially if she could incorporate the wonderful produce of her dear George's backyard garden.

Early in life George and Cecile would camp at national parks across the country. In 1961 they gave up tent camping and began to vacation for the next 46 years in cottages on Hamlin Lake in Ludington, Michigan, the place they treasured immensely. Although Cecile's early years were difficult ones through the depression and WWII, her later life was a beautiful one filled with wonderful times with family and dear friends afforded by exceptional good health until the day she passed.

Cecile is survived by her daughter (Georgiane Dawes), 5 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and niece (Colette (Edward) Swinton). Cecile was preceded by her husband, (George Harris), parents (Jean and Juliette Mottu), son (Alex Harris) and sister (Hanny Levy Mottu). It brings the family great peace knowing Cecile has been reunited with her adoring husband after 7 lonely years living without him on this earth.
