
"Chalie", professed his love for Christ at an early age where he attended Walker Chapel.
He attended Delta Institute High School, were he played basketball, baseball and he also acquired carpentry skills while in school.
On December 16, 1950, "Charlie" was united in holy matrimony to Mary G. Adams and they moved to Indianapolis in 1960.
He was the father of 16 children whom he provided very well for.
After he moved to Indianapolis, he joined St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the senior usher board, brotherhood ministry and also sung with St. Luke's Male Chorus.
"Chalie" worked as a bricklayer for John A. Miller Construction and retired after 46 years.
" Chalie" loved his flower and vegetable garden and had a love for talking. He loved to be sociable on the weekends but never missed a day of work, Monday through Fridays. Healso had a love for fashion and his favorite phrase was " If I had more pockets, I'd have mo'money" he was also known to play " Big Bank Take Little Bank" and you better believe he always won!
Charles Lee "Chalie" Willis departed this life on Friday, December 19, 2014 at the age of 87 years old.
He was proceeded in death by his son, Clemel Willis of Youngstown, Ohio, one daughter, Mary Louise Willis, one brother, Cato Willis, one grandson, Antonio Willis and one granddaughter Erica Willis.
Charles "Chalie" Willis leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife Mary Willis, two sisters, Lula Journey and Willie B. Smith of Clarksdale, Mississippi, five sons of Indianapolis, Robert James (Dorothy), Michael Willis, Rick Willis (Rene), John Willis and Michael Whiteside (Alfreda), Elijah Williams of Rialto , California and Eddie Willis (Arlene) of Deltona, Florida, six daughters of Indianapolis, E. Ann Pounds, Sylvia Hobbs, Ernestine Willis- Smith (Anthony), Jackie Whiteside, Darnell Butler of Rochester, New York, Rita Falconer (Wilbert) of Crawfordsville, Indiana and Diretha Willis of Akron, Ohio, 46 grandchildren , 70 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
His visitation will take place on Saturday, December 27, 2014, 10am- 12pm, with the Homegoing Celebration commencing at 12pm at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church. His burial will take place in Washington Park East Cemetery.
