Darrell Gene Kimsey, 77, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed peacefully at home on Monday, January 3, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Darrell was born on June 8, 1944 in Indianapolis to the late Elizabeth and Lawrence Kimsey.
Darrell married Vicki Jones on March 14, 1964, together they have raised 3 children. Darrell wore multiple hats, including a firefighter helmet and a trucker hat. He was a firefighter for 25 years and also a Diesel Mechanic/Driver. He was employed with many different trucking companies including Swift Transportation and CCX.
Darrell enjoyed camping and traveling with his family, he was always on the go. He liked to fish regularly, and could be found outdoors most of the time.
He and his wife attended Oaklandon Christian Church for a number of years, they also attended Park Chapel Christian Church before Darrell's illness took over.
Darrell is survived by his wife of 57 years; Vicki Kimsey, children; Gene Kimsey (Mary), Bryant Kimsey (Tina), Becky Watts (Brent), brother; Jack Kimsey, grandchildren; Olivia Walker (Preston), Kevin Kimsey, Kyle Kimsey, Holly Kimsey, Savannah Watts, Logan Watts, Isaac Watts, Cierra Watts, Rachel Ritzer, great grandchildren; Jakobi Simms, Chandler Walker and Beau Walker.
In addition to his parents Darrell was preceded in death by his brother Larry Kimsey and his sister Janice (Kimsey) Peed.
A visitation for Darrell will be held Friday, January 7, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Feeney-Hornak Shadeland Mortuary, 1307 N Shadeland Ave, Indianapolis, Indiana 46219. A funeral service will occur Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Feeney-Hornak Shadeland Mortuary.
As Darrell would say "Glad you got to see me".
Darrell will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery - Washington Park Cemetery Association, 9350 Washington St, Indianapolis, Indiana 46229.
