David Michael Brown, 85, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Born on October 31, 1940, in the same city he called home throughout his life, David lived with integrity, devotion, and a deep love for his family and faith.
A proud graduate of Ben Davis High School, David went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Butler University. He briefly attended IU Law School before choosing a different path—one that reflected his practical nature and commitment to community. Early in his career, David worked alongside his father in the family hardware store, a formative experience that instilled in him a strong work ethic and sense of responsibility.
David later built a diverse professional life rooted in public service and stewardship. He owned several rental properties and held various inspection roles that contributed to the health and safety of Indiana residents. He served as a food inspector for the Marion County Health Department in Indianapolis, a nursing home inspector for the Indiana State Board of Health, and a landfill inspector for the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. In each role, David brought diligence and fairness to his work.
He also served five years in the Army Reserve, demonstrating his dedication to serving others both at home and abroad.
David was married to his beloved wife Carolyn for 63 years—a union grounded in unwavering faith and mutual respect. Together they built a life centered around their shared Christian values and enduring love. David was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother who cherished time with his family above all else.
Outside of work and family life, David found joy in simple pleasures. He loved playing golf, fishing, traveling to Florida with Carolyn, watching movies, and reading the newspaper cover to cover each day. These hobbies reflected his curious mind and appreciation for both leisure and learning.
David’s strong Christian faith was central to who he was. He attended East 91st Street Christian Church for many years, where he found spiritual nourishment and community.
David will be remembered as a loving, honest, and dependable man whose legacy lives on through those who knew him best. His memory will continue to bring comfort to all who were fortunate enough to share in his life.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn Brown; daughter Amy Brown; son Craig Brown; daughter-in-law Hillary Brown; grandson Oliver Brown, and sister Susan Brown. He was preceded in death by his son Mark Brown.
