The son of Vance Bullock and Madeline (Pryor) Bullock, David Bullock Sr., was born on April 10, 1934, in Indianapolis, IN. David’s parents migrated from Athens, GA north to Indianapolis, to make a better life for their family.
David was a God-fearing man who loved the Lord and was well-versed on the bible scriptures. On August 19, 1950, David was united in Holy Matrimony to Georgia M. (Willis) Bullock, who preceded him in death following 70 years of marriage. Seven children were born to their union.
David was employed at Allison’s, division of General Motors, where he later retired from after several decades. While employed there, David was able to overcome adversities being a man of color. He was a dedicated worker who persevered, proved his talent and went on to make a good name for himself. He encouraged and extended the opportunity to work for General Motors to his children, which three of them followed in his footsteps, and eventually retired from, along with a grandson who is currently employed there.
David was a savvy businessman, who learned what it took early on to develop financial security by investing in the stock market, during a time when such knowledge was not easily attainable. He understood the value of a dollar from having grown up without, thus he always saved and was jokingly looked upon as “frugal”.
David was very athletic and took pride in keeping himself in shape. If he was not sitting in his favorite recliner in the living room with his slippers enjoying his favorite sports programming, you could often find him lifting weights in the basement or walking several miles a day up and down Colds Spring Road. Outwardly, David was very “stern” and to some, intimidating, with his muscular frame and firm handshakes, but had a genuine soft spot in his heart for those whom he loved.
On Friday, February 14, 2025, David Bullock Sr., transitioned to his eternal home to be with the Lord. He leaves to treasure his memory, sons David Bullock II, Aaron Bullock Sr. (Diane), Mark Bullock (Sharon), Broderick Bullock Sr. and reunited with sons Dale Bullock, Vincent Bullock, daughter Diane Miles, wife Georgia Bullock, siblings Herbert, Lillian, and Chester. David also leaves behind a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A visitation for David will be held Wednesday, February 26, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 W. 38th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46208, followed by a celebration of life at 1:00 PM.
David will be laid to rest in Crown Hill Cemetery, 700 W 38th St, Indianapolis, IN 46208.
