

David was born in Versailles, Kentucky on June 13th, 1938 to the late Annette Craig Douglass and William Bennett England.
David accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized by Reverend Keaton at First Baptist Church in Versailles, Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his wife Gail England, and sons Edgar "Jay" Smith III, David Hunter England Jr. along with his sisters Jean Buchanan, Shirley Walker Browne, and Loretta Walker. He is survived by his daughters Monique Smith, Tamrell Smith, Judy England and sons Ivan England, Troy England, Adrian England and Noah England. He is survived by his siblings Bernice Douglas, Patricia Holmes, John Walker Jr. and Larry Walker. His grandchildren are Arron Smith, DeShaun Smith, Arial Polson, Hunter Poulter, Anthony England, Cameron England, Marquis England and Mia Carter. He was blessed with ten great grandchildren. He was also blessed with a special niece, Dawn Walker along with a host of other nieces and nephews.
David was drafted into the Army and served two years. While in the Army he was a sergeant and light weight weapons infantryman. He was a licensed barber for many years. His longest employment was a mail handler for the U.S. Postal Service for 26 years, retiring in 1992.
David was a comedian, storyteller, and a musician who played piano, guitar and sang. He was the founder and president of the Heavenly Voices. Over 34 years their main purpose was to share the gospel of Christ with others through word and song, to the sick and shut in, those in hospitals, nursing homes and prisons. David was a huge giver, volunteer, and philanthropist in the state of Indiana. Recognized and rewarded by Mayor Goldsmith. He was a Deacon at Oasis of Hope. David never missed an opportunity to tell people about Jesus. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed watching the Pacers and Colts, and Old Westerns. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. He will truly be missed by us all.
A visitation for David will be held Friday, August 9, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Oasis of Hope, 1701 E 25th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46218, followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 PM.
