

Donald grew up in Indianapolis Indiana, he received his early education and graduation from Short Ridge High School. Upon graduation, in 1959, Donald chose to serve his country and enlisted with the United States Navy, he was honorably discharged in 1963, after discharged Donald enrolled at Central State University he then went on and met his first wife Mary Thomas, and from that union, they were blessed to have three children. Donald and Mary later moved to Louisville KY.
Donald was also blessed to have six other children. In 1975, Donald and Mary moved to San Francisco, CA, to further his education he enrolled in San Francisco State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology. It was at this time that Donald discovered his love of travel, and it was important for him to introduce his children to the World of Travel. Donald was able to visit many countries and discover many different cultures.
In 1982, Donald and Mary divorced. In 1984, Donald married his second wife Patricia Caldwell, from this union Donald gained two stepchildren. Donald remained in California until his retirement.
In 2007, Donald relocated back to Indianapolis where he reacquainted himself with the city, family, and friends. He became a member of the Northside Reunion and the Romans Social Club, where he was a very active member and participated in many events.
During Donald’s professional career he was the Director of the Oakland Army Base Commissary and the Director of the Methadone Clinic in California. In addition, Donald ran his own Real Estate Company Byrdsong Rentals in the Indianapolis Area.
Donald leads to cherish his memory his wife, Patricia Byrdsong of Jeffersonville, IN. Daughters; Angela Brydsong of San Francisco, CA., Tara Byrdsong (Ralph) Randolph of Carmel, IN. Kara (Kenneth) Hardister of Carmel, IN, Danielle McClain of Indianapolis IN and, daughter-in-law, Sabrina Byrdsong of Indianapolis, IN. Sons; Brian (Miko) Walker of Los Angeles, CA, and Adolphus Armstrong of Atlanta, GA. Stepchildren; Perry Caldwell, Angela Caldwell, Monique Batts, and La Kisha Harris, 25 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
Preceding him in death his parents, Robert and Ethel Byrdsong, brothers, Frank, Louis, and Karl Louis. Sons, Donald Byrdsong Jr., Eric Byrdsong and Damon McClain.
A visitation for Donald will be held Friday, November 17, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, IN 46208, followed by a celebration of life at 1:00 PM.
