

94, of Indianapolis, passed away January 14, 2014. He was born April 18, 1919 in Paxton, Illinois to John and Nellie McNellis Ryan. He was a WWII veteran in the Army Air Corp. He attended DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. He worked for Eli Lilly and Company for 31 years and at the time of his retirement he was the department head of toxicology services. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, American Association of Animal Lab Science, and lifetime member of Knights of Columbus Fatima Council #3228. Don had been a Benedictine Oblate since 1966 of St. Meinrad Archabbey. He was preceded in death by his wife Irene (Daufel) Ryan. Don is survived by his sons John P. (Sharon) Ryan, Edward J. (Cathy) Ryan, grandchildren John (Paula) Ryan, Stephanie (Pat) Heraty, Nick (Kate) Ryan, Jimmy (Kelly) Ryan, Dennis Ryan, Colleen (Scott) Lotz and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Wednesday January 22 at 9:30 am at Feeney-Hornak Shadeland Mortuary, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 7243 E. 10th Street. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 21 from 4 – 8 pm at the mortuary. An evening prayer service with a time to share stories will be at 7:30 pm. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Don’s name may be made to St. Vincent dePaul Society, 3001 East 30th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46218.
