

Doris was born in Holly Springs, Mississippi on October 30, 1939, to Thomas (T.C.) & Brooksie Young. She graduated from Saint Mary’s High School (Holly Springs, MS) and later received her degree from Marion College (Indianapolis, IN).
On June 24, 1967, she married the love of her life, Dan Shaw, and they went on to have and cherish one daughter, Andrea. Doris retired in 2005 from LaRue Carter Hospital as a nursing assistant after 44 years of service.
She was an original member of Holy Angels Church and active, dedicated member of St. Monica Church where she was involved in small church group and bereavement group. Her affiliations also included Amway and the Lane College Alumni group. She loved to dance, travel, read, exercise and most of all she loved her family!
Doris was known and loved by all for her sweet, kind soul.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, T.C. and Brooksie Young, three sisters: Earlean McNeil, Yvonne Barnett and Blanchy Young; five brothers: Odell Young, Eldridge (Joe) Young Theartis (Ted) Young, Ezell Young and Donnie Young, her oldest grandson, Terrell Gordon, and sisters-in-law; Maxine Young, Hazel Young and brother-in-law Stillie Andrews.
Doris is survived by her husband: Dan Shaw, daughter: Andrea (Gerald) Holland, four grandchildren: Jonah (Biany) Settles, Evenbay Settles II, Aniya Settles and Laila Settles, three great-grandchildren: Malaiya Gordon, Adalys JuarezCortes and Symere Woodson, four sisters: Vernita Jones, Voycell (Steven) Neal, Joycell (Dennis) Ingram and Brenda (Ronald) Appleton, brothers-in-law: Kenneth McNeil, Will Shaw and sisters-in-law: Lynnette Young, Lula (Shaw) Andrews as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren and friends.

Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
A visitation will be held at St. Monica Catholic Church located at 6131 N. Michigan Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46228. The visitation is scheduled for November 8, 2025, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Following the visitation, a Funeral Mass will take place at the same venue on November 8, 2025, starting at 12:00 pm.
Doris S. Shaw will be laid to rest at Washington Park North Cemetery, located at 2702 Kessler Blvd W Dr., Indianapolis.
