Dwight was born on June 8, 1961 in Indianapolis to Jesse A. and Alice V. Woodson. He attended St. Rita Catholic School, Indianapolis and graduated from Arsenal Technical School, Indianapolis, in 1978. He then attended Wabash College, Crawfordsville, IN where he studied both law and theology.
Over the years, Dwight enjoyed a number of “jobs” before settling into a career that aligned with his love and passion of cars. This passion is shared today by his nephew, David Alan. A quiet man, Dwight was highly intelligent and studious and was the recipient of several awards and honors having completed high school in three years.
Preceded in death by our parents, Jesse A. and Alice V. Woodson, Dwight is survived by his sisters, Jessica L. Woodson and Kimberly K. Woodson McClung, and his nephew, David Alan McClung II. He will be missed by a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 10AM until 11AM on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Crown Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11AM. Pastor David L. Page, of New Baptist Church and family friend, officiating. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are by Crown Hill Cemetery and Funeral Home.
Memorials may be given in Dwight’s name to the Mozel Sanders Foundation, Thanksgiving Day Dinner. Though he never boasted about anything, one thing we will always fondly remember was the year we volunteered as a family to deliver Thanksgiving Day dinners to those less fortunate. Shortly after Dwight handed out a dinner to a gentleman sitting alone and hungry, that gentleman was featured on the cover of the Indianapolis Star and was grateful to have received a dinner from the foundation.
We, the family of Dwight DeVan Woodson, wish to extend our sincere thanks to the many Nurses, CNAs, and other kind people who cared for Dwight this past year. Your compassion will never be forgotten.
