A Time to Live
Edward, affectionally known as “Ed” relocated to Indianapolis with his family in 1951 where he accepted Christ at a young age. He was baptized in Indianapolis, IN. Ed had three kids (James Edward, Chrystal and Cathy) between 1957-1962. In 1966 He married the love of his life Patricia Ashby. To this union one child was born; David Dowdell. He also inherited two daughters; Jacqueline Bumphus and Denise Bryant whom he considered his very own.
Ed worked several jobs starting at a young age. His career job was at Chevrolet where he retired after 32 years of employment. He loved going into his office to review his paperwork to ensure he stayed current on all legislative updates. He would often go down memory lane, reviewing old paperwork from the late 50’s. He would share his accomplishments by reviewing copies of his first pay check, promotions, taxes and old articles from the newspapers. He enjoyed going to the city planning meetings to see what was coming next to determine when and where to purchase his next investment property. He was sharp with numbers, watching the stock market closely. He enjoyed what he called learning moments. He would often say “Measure twice and Cut once” because we sometimes find ourselves measuring 5 or 6 times. Ed liked getting it right the first time. He enjoyed teaching his children how to drive their first car at Bush Stadium parking lot. In his downtime, he especially loved watching CNBC and CNN news.
He was also a strong and faithful member/advocate of the NAACP Branch 3053 and a local member of UAW 23.
