Obituary of Edward Eugene Hanley
Edward "Ed" Eugene Hanley, age 89, of Indianapolis, passed away on April 19, 2021. He was born on November 5, 1931 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late George Leo and Margaret (DeCorrevant) Hanley. Upon graduation from St. Xavier High School, Edward enlisted in the U.S. Navy in which he served for 5 years. He married his bride, Ruth Ann Kuechly, on June 23, 1956 and he was stationed in Newfoundland, Canada at the Early Warning Air Base. Ed worked as a salesman for many companies, including J & N Auto Electric. He also worked for several years for the federal government. Ed loved cooking and entertaining and owned a restaurant in Indianapolis called Lamplighter Inn. Ed was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and the men's prayer group. He was involved in the choir at many different churches and he was also a member of the Orchid Society. Ed enjoyed packing up his car and taking whoever was willing to come along and drive west to Nebraska, Colorado, Oregon, California to visit family and friends. He was a proud father of 7 children. Ed will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Ruth Ann Hanley; children: Katherine (Roger) Knutson, Jerome (Katie) Hanley, Teresa (James) Lesch, George Hanley and Martin (Jude) Hanley; grandchildren: Quentin Knutson; Andrew, Nicholas, Lanie and Joseph Hanley; Christopher, Daniel, Nicholas, Samuel, Cecilia, Michael and John Lesch; Rachel, Mark and Eric Hanley; and Bridgid and Mary Hanley; and 14 great grandchildren. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and his son Christopher Hanley and infant son Martin Hanley; and sister, Virginia Jansen. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 23, 2021 from 10:00am until 12:00pm at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5884 Crittenden Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46220. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 12:00pm also at the church. Memorial contributions may be made by mail to Little Sisters of the Poor, 2345 W 86th St, Indianapolis, IN 46260.
