She received her education at Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Children’s Home in Knightstown, Indiana, where she graduated in 1967.
After graduation, she obtained a job working in the medical industry. During this time, she was also taking college courses at an Indiana business school. It was during this time in her life that she met and married Columbus Lloyd. To this union, two children were born: Alana Swanigan (Lloyd) and Damon Lloyd.
During her marriage to Columbus, while he was serving in the U.S. Marine Corp., she lived in Long Beach, California. After his years of service had ended, they moved back to Indianapolis, Indiana. After some time being in Indianapolis, although her marriage had dissolved, she continued pursuing her education.
She obtained her certification in Public Management from Indiana University. She also went on to pursue and obtain her Bachelor of Science and Masters in Business Administration at Martin University. She worked in very high level professional positions, which led her to the field industry of Human Resources. She eventually retired from the City of Indianapolis Human Resource department.
During the time that she was making her mark establishing a career pathway, it was then that she met, fell in love with and eventually married Charles Terry. The two were inseparable. If you saw one, you saw the other. Anyone who saw them together, could see the love that they had for one another. They were very active together in their community and showed genuine love and regard to anyone that came close in proximity to them. They had a love like no other. After thirty years of being together, the love of her life, Charles Terry preceded her in death.
Elizabeth “Liz” Terry, as mentioned was very active in her community. She served in many organizations such as the Indiana Black Expo, Indianapolis Urban League, along with many others.
Elizabeth did not meet a stranger and as the saying goes “to know her was to love her”. She had a smile that could brighten any room and the personality to match it. It was always an adventure or moment to look forward to being around her. She was truly the total package: beautiful, intelligent, quick witted, classy, and many, many more.
Mrs. Elizabeth Marie Terry departed this earthly life on Monday, August 5, 2024 at the age of 74 years old. She was preceded in death by her father, Oscar H. France, Sr.; her mother, Asie Mae France (Caldwell) and husband, Charles L. Terry.
