Esther Naomi Moore

Esther Moore 98 of Indianapolis passed away Tuesday, March 25 2025. Esther was born in Indianapolis to Herbert and Nellie Mays on November 12th 1926. She was raised by her grandmother Mrs. Nannie Bell Green and step grandfather William Green.

Esther Naomi Mays attended Emmanuel Baptist Church in her youth where she accepted Jesus Christ. Later in life she became a member of Eastern Star Baptist Church where she attended regularly until her illness.

Esther attended Crispus Attucks High School. On June 12th, 1943 she married Joe Henry Moore, her high school sweetheart before he was deployed overseas as a Marine during WWII. They were married for 80 years until his death August 28, 2023.

Esther retired from V.A. Hospital after over 30 years of service. Esther enjoyed conversing with people, new experiences and traveling.

She had a great appreciation for music and really enjoyed dancing. One of her favorite dances was the electric slide which she still did while on her walker.

Esther is preceded in death her husband of 80 years Joe H. Moore Sr. grandparents, parents and

Sister Pauline Hale.

She is survived by her daughters Joanna (Steven) Bledsoe and Karen Moore, sons Joe H.

(Audrey) Moore Jr., Kevin Moore and Kendall (Michelle) Moore Sr., 8 grandchildren, 6 great

grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and 1 nephew Joseph Hale III.
