Gary was a graduate of Lewis Cass High School. There he met his best friend and wife, Dixie. After graduation from high school, Gary served 25 years in the U.S. Air Force and retired with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. As a civilian, he worked for the State of Indiana as a permit writer for several years. He was also a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.
Gary is survived by his children, Stacy Hunter, and Stephanie (Waylon) Cook; sisters, Lora Correll and Teresa Freeman; brothers, Ron (Betsy) and Ralph (Loretta) Freeman; grandchild, Chelci Hunter (Jessica); and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, and his wife, Dixie.
A visitation for Gary will be held Friday, February 23, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Feeney-Hornak Shadeland Mortuary, 1307 N Shadeland Ave, Indianapolis, Indiana 46219, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM.
