

General Jackson Johnson, Sr. was the seventh of thirteen children born to James (Jim) and Mary Jane Johnson on September 29, 1924 in Heflin, Alabama. His parents, five sisters; Velma, Alma, Ada, Maylene, and Reba Louis and five brothers; Samuel, Ulas (Rev.), Nelson, Claude (Rev.) and James, Jr. preceded him in death.
General accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at an early age and was a member of the Macedonia Missionary Church, Heflin, AL. He attended the Calhoun County Training School in Hobson City, Alabama, graduating as the class Valedictorian. After serving in the U.S. Navy for three years, he attended Tuskegee University and graduated from the College of Agriculture, with high honors.
General married Jeanette Foster on July 26th, 1946 and was blessed with four children. He and Jeanette relocated to Dawson, Georgia and were members of Sardis Baptist Church. General served as an usher and deacon. Jeanette; his eldest daughter, Sophia; and a grandson, Berlin preceded him in death.
General was a dedicated teacher for 30 years in the Georgia School System and retired in 1984 with the Early County School System. After retirement, General worked part-time, as a gate security guard, for Tyson Meat Packing Company.
In 1998, General reunited with his childhood sweetheart, Jerrylean, and they were married on April 15, 2000. From this marriage, he gained two daughters and three grandchildren.
General was added to the St. John's Missionary Baptist Church after relocating to Indianapolis. He attended Sunday school regularly and was a member of The Crossing Over Ministries. He volunteered as a tour guide at the NCAA Hall of Champions and received two awards for his dedicated service. He was also a member of the Indianapolis Tuskegee Alumni Club.
General joined his heavenly father on January 29, 2013 at the age of 88 years and four months. He was loved by all and he will be missed by his wife Jerrylean, two sisters; Pauline Wilson (Clarence) of Anniston, AL and Lela Jane Parker (Cooledge) of Lithonia, GA, four daughters; Kay Olateru-Olagbegi, Ann Wolf (Sifes), Kimberly Cumberlander-Yates (Melvin) and Andra Davis-McCoy (Jeff), and one son, General J. Johnson, Jr. (Sun Chin);
General's beloved grandchildren; Tesa Green, Tanika Joseph (Uriel), Alvin Thompson (Angelina), Barry Johnson, SSgt Broland Johnson (USAF), Betram Johnson, Tammie McCoy, Jason, Cumberlander, and Vaughn McCoy, great grandchildren; Ajah Green, Emani Green and Dantecia Hayes, two special friends and care givers; Leslie Moore and Bernice Moss and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
