

Helen (Level) Chapman was born January 14th, 1932 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late Ellis Level and Mollie (Herring) Level. Both her parents and three of her siblings preceded her in death; Elizabeth Level, Norrel Level, and George Level. Helen confessed a hope in Christ at an early age. She was a member of New Vision Missionary Baptist Church.
Helen received her elementary education from Indianapolis Public School #37, and was a graduate of Crispus Attucks high school, class of 1950.
On June 13th, 1953, Helen was united in holy matrimony to Joseph David Chapman and during their union, four children were born; Gwendolyn J. Chapman (deceased), Edwin L. Chapman, Stephanie A. Finnell, and Anthony J. Chapman. Helen was a Record Tester for RCA for 19 years, she retired in 1987. She also worked for Marriott Food Service at Butler University. Helen was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family, especially during the holidays.
Helen was known by her family as a woman of integrity who stood firm in her beliefs and convictions. She was an avid reader and enjoyed going to the library regularly. Helen was often seen encouraging young people to reach for their dreams and aspirations. She encouraged her children to get as much education as possible and never stop learning.
She leaves to cherish her memory; brother Edgar (Imogene) Level; children Edwin (Rhonda) Chapman, Stephanie (Vincent) Finnell, and Anthony Chapman; grand-children Dennis Chatmon, Jonathan (Lisa Anderson) Chapman, Julian Chapman, Vincent Kory Finnell, and Rosetta Hayes; three great-grandchildren; Tae-lyn Chatmon, Ayanna Chatmon, and Mya Chatmon; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
