Henry “Bud” William Boerner III passed away peacefully in his sleep December 13, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Chicago on December 28, 1936, to Margaret and Henry William Boerner II, the first of four children.
After Bud graduated high school, he entered the Society of the Divine Word at Holy Ghost Seminary in East Troy, MN. Realizing priesthood wasn’t for him, he left the seminary to pursue a degree in education at St. Mary’s University in Winona, MN. He went on to teach history and English after serving four years in the United States Army with the Seventh Army Symphony, playing the bass.
Bud always had a passion for the bass, and so entered the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, where he met his bride, Ruth. He continued playing for the ISO for 40 years and spent the last 15 years enjoying retirement. Bud was known as the “baby whisperer” and could never pass a baby or child on the street without stopping to admire and hopefully steal a hug.
Bud is preceded in death by his mother and father, brother Tim, nephew Mark, and daughter Heidi and grandson, James. He is survived by his wife Ruth, sister Marnee (Frank), brother Mark (Karen), by his children Per (Annemarie), Christine (Jeff), Meghan, Henry “Billy” William Boerner IV (Edith), Michael (Chloe), and by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., on December 29th at Crown Hill Funeral Home, with visitation from 11 a.m.
