James was united in marriage to the love of his life Mary "Frances" Woods who he adoringly called "Best" on April 9th 1950. They were happily married for 60 years when Mary "Frances" passed peacefully in her sleep.
James "Raymond" Woods entered the military as a teenager, serving in both World War II and the Vietnam War. He retired after 30 years of service from the military as "First Sargent". While in the military, James and his wife "Frances" lived in Germany for several years where they cared for nieces Carol Ann and Helen. After returning state-side, he became head of the ROTC department at Shortridge High School where he helped a countless number of students to better their lives. He then went on to retire from the USPS.
James "Raymond" Woods was a loving, kindhearted and generous husband, father and man. He loved spending time with his family and friends. On January 1987, James along with his wife dedicated their lives to Jehovah God, each faithfully serving as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Giving all love, honor, glory, and praise to Jehovah God and Jesus Christ was extremely important to James and his wife.
James "Raymond" Woods peacefully went to sleep in death on January 16th, 2020 surrounded by "his girls" and holding his daughter's hand. James was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary "Frances" Woods, sister Alverta Meade, and niece Carol Ann Yates.
Those left to carry on James legacy and cherish his memory are "his girls"; his loving and devoted daughter Cynthia Rae Woods, his doting and compassionate granddaughter Ariana "LaRay" Craig. "His girls" affectionately loved and cared for him and deeply miss him. Raymond is also survived by his son Reginald Jerome Woods, granddaughters; Alexa "Frances" Woods and Taryn "Nae Nae" Robertson, Honorary grandson Xavier Guy Alston, a beloved pet maltese-Zack Woods, and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family of James Raymond Woods wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many comforting messages, prayers, flowers, food, cards, calls and expressions of kindness and concerns. We especially would like to acknowledge Daniel Winston Sr and Anita Hudgins.
