

Jan Wiggin Prendergast was born on August 2, 1958 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Jan was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved spending time and making memories with her family. She found so much joy and fulfillment from seeing all those around her happy and smiling, with her fabulous sense of humor. She tried in every way to be gracious and loving to all those in her life.
Jan spent 5 years working at the Marion County Health Department, where she met her loving husband Tom , they were married for 39 years. In Jan’s opinion her greatest accomplishment was raising her two daughters. One of her most treasured titles in life came with the birth of her only grandchild, Sean. She adored seeing him grow and learn.
Learning was one of Jan’s many passions. She was very accomplished driven person. She graduated from Manual High School Class of 1976; she went on to Ball State University class of 1981. She finished her learning journey with her Masters of Arts from Grand Cannon University in 2013.
For 30 years Jan taught and inspired her many students. She held various positions as a substitute, classroom teacher, and special arts teacher. Any chance available,you could find her volunteering her time working various sporting functions. She loved cheering on all students that needed support.
She was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church of Indianapolis. During her tenure as a teacher was a member of the National Education Association (NEA.) She was active parent in the Franklin Township Girls Softball program for many years.
Jan is survived by her loving husband Tom Prendergast; her mother Corajo Wiggin; her sister MaryJo Ensch (Stan). Two loving daughters Laurie Prendergast, and Colleen Lane (Russ), Grandson Sean Lane.
Jan was preceded in death by her father Ernest “George” Wiggin II, her brother Pete Wiggin, and grandparents Bud and Eula Gunning, Bess and Ernst Wiggin II.
Visitation will be held on June 20, 2024 from 3-7pm at Feeney-Hornak Shadeland Mortuary, 1307 N. Shadeland Ave. Indianapolis, IN, 46219. A brief memorial service at 7pm lead by Rev. Mary Ann Moman will follow. Internment will be private at a later date, her final resting place will be at Calvary Cemetery.
The family would like to host a celebration of life ceremony later this summer in honor of Jan’s birthday.
