
He attended elementary school in Woodburn, Kentucky. He’s a graduate of State Street High School in Bowling Green, KY, where he played football for the State Street High “Mustangs”.
After high school he enlisted in the United States Army. After serving his country he moved to Rochester, New York where he worked at Stokley VanCamp.
He later moved to Indianapolis, IN, where he met and married Dorothy Edwards. To that union was added a daughter, Delisa Ann Gamble. That marriage was later dissolved.
In 1977 he met and married the beautiful Bernice Porter Dodson. They were married Feb 14, 1978 and he gained a son, Brian E. Dodson, and she gained a daughter, Delisa Ann Gamble.
Brooks was a very loving husband and father. He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Frist Baptist Church of Woodburn, KY. He later joined Zion Hope Independent Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis, under the Pastorate of Rev. James Wells, who also officiated his wedding to Bernice. On June 12, 2016 he became a member of New Wineskin Ministries under the Pastorate of Bishop Byron Johnson and Pastor Mark Brown.
Brooks retired from Woodland Country in 1998 after 22 years. He started as Events and Activities co-ordinate and was later promoted to manager of The Men’s Grill.
His work history also includes The Country Club of Indianapolis, Hillcrest Country Club, Western Electric, Riviera Club and Bemis Bag Co.
He was a people person, he loved to travel. Some of his trips included 3 trips to Hawaii, 5 trips to the Bahamas, Jamaica, Aruba, St. Thomas, San Juan Puerto Rico, St Maarten, and Curacao.
He was predeceased by all of his siblings, sisters: Virgie L. Akers, Louise Townsend and Minnie Bolling. Brothers: James Gamble and Jeff Gamble.
Brooks loved football. He enjoyed talking to his friends and neighbors and was always eager to lend a helping hand to everyone. He liked to give advice. He enjoyed hosting cook-outs at his home and liked to entertain people.
Before his health failed he liked to fish and hunt. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and he also thought of all the neighborhood kids as his grandchildren. They all loved him too.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Bernice, daughter Delisa Ann Brown (Vincent) grandsons, Jerdson Lamont Gamble, Thaddeus Brown, granddaughter Jessica Gamble Starks, 5 great grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
