19 February, 198515 August, 2019
The year 1985, and the United States were heralding in the new. But in the midst of all the new inventions and ideas, in the small southern town of Jackson, Tennessee, God sent a piece of heaven down into the arms of Mary Jane Cole and Lenwood Reed, the birth of their son (Jermaine Montrel) on February 19, 1985 with thanksgiving. As a child, he was eccentric, inquisitive, and introspective. He easily adapt to new situations, and never a stranger to a warm smile. His aesthetic sensibilities allowed him to develop great building skills at an early age. He had impeccable taste and recognized exceptional quality. He was an achiever and influencer and excelled at every endeavor. Jermaine, the son of a Pastor Preacher and whose mother is a strong Woman of God, realize the need for Christ teachings in his life, was baptized by his father, at The New First Baptist Church at Maury City, Tennessee. He served in the Usher’s Ministry, and as a youth would preach his father’s sermons back to him on the long ride home. Jermaine lived life without boundaries, using his strength to help support and defend those he consider the lost, least and left out.. He has never been threatened by the ills of society, which may inhibit the free spirit of a young black man. Upon graduating from Overton High School in 2003, he worked as a Technician for the Germantown Car Wash and numerous other jobs while attending school. Later, Jermaine relocated to Indianapolis to be near his mother and siblings and remained until his passing. Though Jermaine’s 34 years of life, measured by the length of days were brief, he lived each day fully. He was blessed with unconditional love, encouragement, and unselfish support of his parents, and family, which allowed him to pursue and accomplish his goals. Jermaine served as an inspiration for his family, sisters, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. He was a positive spirit with a generous smile who lived to feed his old soul. On Thursday evening, August 15, 2019, Jermaine peacefully left the chaotic streets of Indianapolis, Indiana to begin his final journey back to the loving, all knowing, infinite Creator who divinely formed him in his mother’s womb. He begins eternity in the presence of his grandparents Wiley & Carrie Reed, aunts and uncles. All who knew Jermaine will miss him, but he will be lovingly remembered by his children: Dejuan, Jermaine, Ja’Nijah and Juelz of Indianapolis, Indiana. His parents: Ms. Mary J. Cole of Indianapolis, Indiana and Dr. Lenwood Reed of Memphis, Tennessee. His sisters: Shantel D. Cole, LaSonya M. Cole, Shatoya M. Cole of Indianapolis, Indiana. Grandparents: Ms. (Alfonso) Mary Cole - Richardson of Brownsville, Tennessee and Mr. Floyd Anderson of California and a plethora of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Jermaine Montrel Cole- an individual, a leader. Gregarious and thoughtful, polite and diplomatic, always reaching, always achieving, always giving, always living out loud. To All Parents “I’ll lend you, for a little while, a child of mine.” He said, “ For you to love while he lives, and mourn when he is dead.” “It may be six or seven years or twenty-two or three.” But will you, till I call him back, take care of him for me? He’ll bring his charms to gladden you, and shall his stay be brief, you have his lovely memories as solace for your grief. “I cannot promise he will stay, as all from earth return, but there are lessons taught down there I want this child to learn. “I’ve looked the wide world over in my search for teachers true, and from the throngs that crowd life’s lanes, I have selected you. “Now will you give him all your love –not think the labor vain, nor hate me when I come to take him back again.” I fancied that I heard them say “Dear Lord, thy will be done.” For all the joy this child shall bring, the risk of grief we’ll run. We’ll shower him with tenderness and love him while we may, and for the happiness we’ve known, forever grateful stay. And shall the angels call for him much sooner than we planned we’ll brave the bitter grief that comes, and try to understand. ~Edgar Guest Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.dignitymemorial.com/legacy for the Cole family.
