

MR. JOHN CARYL HUMPHREY was born November 17, 1941, the son of Louellar Humphrey and George Jackson. John was born in Manhattan, New York, and resided with his foster parents John and Geneva Martin on Long Island, New York. As a young man, John attended Sunday school and church services where he sang in the choir.
JOHN went to Port Jefferson School in New York where he sang in the junior and A cappella choirs, as well as the Glee Club. He ran track and field, and played on the junior basketball team. He was a graduate of Wayne School in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Poroe Barber College under the instruction of Mrs. Laura Hughes, Indianapolis, Indiana.
JOHN was a member of the Bel Aires A cappella Doo-Wop Touring Group of New York City. In the 1970's, he was a drummer and bugler in the Gordon Heights Drum and Bugle Corp., Indianapolis, Indiana. John was a side conga drum player for many Indianapolis bands.
In 1964, John was drafted into the United States Army. During his tour of duty, John won the Colonel Bruce C. Clark Award for the Best Dressed Soldier out of 350 participants while serving at the NCO Academy in Germany.
JOHN met his beloved wife, Evelyn Louise Humphrey at Fort Benjamin Harrison Finance Center. They were united in Holy Matrimony on May 28, 1966. Five children were born from this union.
JOHN was employed at the Indiana Medical History Museum, and retired after thirty-five years of service.
JOHN was a frequent visitor at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
MR. JOHN CARYL HUMPHREY departed this life on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at the age of seventy-seven years. He was preceded in passing by his wife Evelyn on July 11, 2009, his daughter Tonya Renee Humphrey Turner on January 11, 2014, and his brother Vernon Humphrey.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving children, Candace Humphrey, Jocelyn (Warren) Bolton, Kasandra Humphrey, John (Chantel) Humphrey Jr., Linda Phillips, Roslyn Hoskins; twenty-one grandchildren, thirty-one great grand children; sisters Gloria Lewis, Delores Bowman, Estella Richardson, Carrie Pinto, and, brother Howard Doran as well as many nieces, nephews, cherished relatives, and innumerable friends.
